PLF Welcomes New Board Members in 2021

The PLF is pleased to announce that Harshi M. Waters (Portland), Akeem Williams (Portland), and Public Member Chris Karlin (Portland) have been appointed as new board members effective January 1, 2021.  Ms. Waters’ term will expire at the end of 2022.  Mr. Williams’ and Mr. Karlin’s terms will expire at the end of 2025.


Harshi M. Waters (Lawyer Member) – Portland

Ms. Waters received her Professional Law Degree (equivalent to a JD) from Sri Lanka Law College in 1991. She also received her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from The Open University of Sri Lanka in 1996. In addition, Ms. Waters received a diploma in International Affairs, with honors, in 1991.

Ms. Waters specializes in business/employment/family immigration law and also practices estate planning.


Akeem Williams (Lawyer Member) – Portland

Mr. Williams earned his JD at Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, in 2011 and his BA in May 2008 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, majoring in American Government.

Mr. Williams worked at Hart Wagner LLP in Portland, Oregon, from September 2012 to November 2014, and at Lindsay Hart LLP, starting in 2014 as an associate attorney and later becoming partner. He currently serves as Corporate Counsel for Daimler Trucks North America LLC in Portland, Oregon.


Chris Karlin (Public Member) – Portland

Mr. Karlin graduated in 1984 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance. In addition, in 1986 he obtained a Masters of International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona.

Mr. Karlin worked in the banking industry for over three decades, most recently at U.S. Bank as Senior Vice President and Division Manager of the nationwide Government Banking Division.

 
These new members will join current PLF Board members Megan Livermore (Chair) (Eugene), Gina Johnnie (Vice Chair) (Salem), Michael Batlan (Public Member) (Secretary-Treasurer) (Salem), Holly Mitchell (Portland), Oren Haker (Portland), and Steve Hill (Pendleton).
 
We extend our warmest thanks to outgoing Board members Molly Jo Mullen (Portland), Tom Newhouse (Public Member) (Portland), Susan Marmaduke (Portland) (mid-year), and Carol Bernick (Portland) for their excellent service.
