Tanya Hanson - Communications Manager

Tanya Hanson received her Bachelor of Science in Finance, cum laude, from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, in 1991. She graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law with a concentration in Business Law (JD 1994), where she served as a Managing Editor of UO Law’s student-run journal, the Oregon Law Review. Ms. Hanson was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1994 and practiced for four years at the Portland law firm Farleigh Wada Witt, focusing on business and employment law. After transitioning out of private practice, she spent a year in Spain traveling and tutoring English. On returning to the States, Ms. Hanson pivoted to a career in publishing, working as the Associate Editor at the Portland-based financial publications company Business Valuation Resources. She also taught legal research and writing courses in the paralegal program at Pioneer Pacific College and provided part-time freelance editing services to various organizations.

Since joining the Professional Liability Fund full-time in 2004, Ms. Hanson has served in several different roles, first as the Loss Prevention Attorney, then as a Communications Coordinator and Staff Attorney. She is now the Communications Manager and leads the PLF Communications Team in overseeing all aspects of internal and external communications for the organization. Ms. Hanson has over 20 years of professional writing and editing experience and contributes occasional blog posts to the PLF’s blog, inPractice. She is the co-author of The New What Can You Do With a Law Degree? A Lawyer’s Guide to Career Satisfaction Inside, Outside & Around the Law (LawyerAvenue Press, Seattle: 2012).
