Claims Assistant

The Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund (PLF) is hiring a full-time claims assistant to join the PLF Claims Department. The PLF is the mandatory provider of primary legal malpractice coverage for Oregon lawyers in private practice. The PLF also provides additional malpractice coverage for law firms above primary limits on an optional, underwritten basis.

What You’ll Do

As a PLF Claims Assistant, you will provide support and coverage for the Claims Department. Primary job duties will include administrative and clerical support for the PLF claims attorneys, providing direct assistance to one assigned claims attorney and coverage as a floater to cover vacations, sabbaticals, illnesses, etc.; maintenance of departmental records and files; backup for Claims Department file opening/closing; administrative assistance to the PLF’s Practice Management Assistance Program with office closures; and reception desk relief.


What You’ll Need to Be Successful in This Role

  • Associate degree preferred; years of work experience taken into consideration in lieu of formal education
  • 2-3 years of related work experience, experience in a litigation and/or insurance a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and electronic filing systems
  • The ability to be organized, flexible, and professional
In addition, this position requires the physical abilities to sit/stand for extended periods of time at a desk; use a computer; participate in meetings; concentrate for extended periods; and shift visual focus between paper documents and electronic screens.


What We Offer

We are pleased to state that this position has a hiring range of $53,768-67,158. We offer an excellent benefits package, including participation in the Oregon PERS/OPSRP retirement program, health insurance, and other benefits.

This position is based at the PLF office in Tigard with a hybrid remote work setup.
